- MALAEKAHANA BEACH HOUSE -
In the larger, two-story, cottage, the first level contains a living-room, bathroom, kitchen and bedroom adjoining a large outdoor living area and lanai. Upstairs is a spacious master bedroom (king-size bed and twin size daybed) with a large, airy bathroom and a lanai facing the sunrise. The large second bedroom contains two twin beds, one sofa and a flat screen television. The smaller, neighboring cottage is laid out with a small bedroom (queen-size bed), kitchen and bathroom, and an exceptionally large living area with two "pu'nees" (queen-size sleeping beds), the entire front opening up onto the lawn and the sea. There is a 40" flat screen TV, DVD player and iPod docking station in each house.

- THE BEACH -
Malaekahana Bay has a long white-sand beach, which makes it perfect for beach walks, ball games and relaxation. It offers good bodyboarding and surfing opportunities. Located just offshore on the southern end of the bay is the small Mokuauia Island, also known as Goat Island. If you are eager to explore it and want to be on a secluded island all by yourself, you can swim over, take a body- or surfboard with you or when it’s low tide, simply walk over because the water is flat enough. Just put some reef shoes on to prevent cuts on your feet. Goat Island is a real hidden paradise. It has a white, sandy beach and green sea turtles can be spotted in the area.

- THE NEIGHBORHOOD -
Secluded oceanfront estate at stunning Malaekahana Bay. On this idelic spot you will go back to a time when life was slow and easy. Northeast trade winds and the occasional sunshine-laced rain showers in this lush tropical setting will instantly set you at ease. Located between the old sugar plantation town of Kahuku and the quaint village of Laie, these units are set beachfront down a private lane off the coastal island highway. This secluded beach-front acre is tucked between a classic ironwood grove and a lawn which stretches down toward a sandy swimming beach.

Spacious House and Excellent Location
The beach "houses" were in an excellent location and having the beach at your doorstep was what we were looking for. It was nice to have 2 properties on the site with very large front and back lawns. The beach was very long so you can enjoy long walks and there were many calm water days for the kids to swim in the ocean. We were able to walk over to Goat Island. The location was very close to grocery stores and restaurants along the North Shore.

For those renting – 1) the garbage needs to go out by the main road and not by the end of the driveway. The instructions do not mention this and we only found out when dropping off the recycling in Laie. 2) your morning alarm will be the roosters 3) Wi-Fi was excellent 4) the main kitchen was fairly well equipped 5) there were ants, geckos, bugs, etc. and we were fine with this as we knew this going in.

I highly recommend the Malaekahana Beach House.

Malaekahana Beach House Review
This is a beautiful property in a wonderfully private location. The yard was perfect for kids to play without worrying about traffic or strangers. The beach was beautiful and private just steps out the back door. It was wonderful to have the guest space for extended family. The house itself is in need of a few minor updates and looked to be difficult to fully clean in the short amount of time given. There is no dishwasher or air conditioning if that is an issue for you, it was OK for us in March. Be prepared for lots of roosters, stray cats, gekkos, ants, and mosquitos. Again, not a problem for us, but some may not like it. It takes a while to drive to the usual attractions and traffic can be an issue, but there is a grocery and plenty of food trucks nearby. I loved this place and would stay there again.

Great property
Our extended family of 12 just finished our vacation and were really impressed with this property. Amazing yard, steps from the waves. Loved being in this quiet area away from the craziness of Honolulu. Kitchen accessories could use an upgrade, but very minor issues.

Spacious Home
This was a very spacious home! We had 2 families, 9 of us total, so the 2 houses were very nice. We had our own privacy, but then ate all our meals together in the big house. Adults and kids both enjoyed the house. Its definitely an older home, which I was aware of when I booked the place, after reading other reviews. So it smelled musty and damp in the main living space, which is to be expected in an older house. It wasn't fancy like a resort, but good price for the 2 houses. Loved the structure of the home. The yard was great and the view from the main bedroom was amazing! Super nice being a few stepts from the ocean. Was a bit noisy with all the chickens, but evidently they are everywhere, so just bring earplugs. The only issue we had was the BBQ didn't work well at all. So we ended up having to buy briquettes for the charcoal BBQ. We didn't tell the management untill the end of our stay. I wish we would have told them right away. Thats the only problem we had.

Perfect vacation spot!
My son got married in Laie and we had a small wedding dinner with family. This beach house was absolutely perfect. The setting overlooking the ocean was amazing. We loved the location and the house. We will definitely be back. The staff was so helpful and assisted us with whatever we needed. You can't go wrong with this place!!!

Authentic North Shore Property Perfect for Family
Our family of 10 (7 adults, 3 teenagers) had an overall enjoyable and relaxing weeklong stay at this property. The house and cottage combination – and breezeway in between – offered many options for socializing and sleeping. The property is rustic, authentic and quirky…a perfect fit for Oahu’s North Shore. The ocean view, expansive private yard and immediate access to the beach were highlights. The house and cottage are clean and comfortable, but not sterile -- we were joined inside by a couple small geckos and a few ants – but neither were surprising or bothersome. The house does not have A/C, but this is on Oahu’s windward side, so the constant breeze kept everyone cool and happy – even in mid July. Overall, if you’re looking for a low-key, fun, private, authentic, family-friendly compound as a base to explore the North Shore, and you’re willing to overlook a couple minor flaws, this may be an excellent option. We would definitely stay here again.

Beatiful house on the beach
This was a family vacation. My wife and I along with 3 of our adult children all spent this time together. When we arrived at the house we must say the view is SPECTACULAR!! The main house was beautiful and very comfortable.. Our kids had the main house and my wife and I were in the cottage. A couple of things to consider, there is not any air conditioning in either house and the days could get very warm especially in the cottage. The other thing to be prepared for is geckos in the houses!! We were surprised by them but they never bothered us and they ate the bugs so we didn't see bugs other than a few ants. A couple of pieces of furniture were broken when we got there and a ceiling fan didn't work but this didn't cause a problem for our family. Overall we loved the house, property, and location especially just a walk out the back yard to a beautiful beach!!! Property management was difficult to reach ( we sent an email about an early check in but never received a response but they did respond to an email of maintenance issues )but don't let that stop you from staying here!! We would all go back!!!

A Wonderful Time
Our stay at Malaekahana Beach House was perfect for us. The location is very private and quiet. The older home and cottage, while not fancy, were light, spacious, and comfortable, but the the beautiful lawns and beach were the stars of our vacation. We had six adults and two children (ages 2 and 4) and spent every moment we could outside. The house was well appointed and the support staff offered to bring us anything additional we might need. The weather in March was perfect but the waves were a little too strong for the small children. We would rent this property again and recommend it highly.

Manager Response: It definitely is a great getaway. Glad you enjoyed your stay in the home.

Perfect location!
We stayed at Malaekahana Feb/March 2017. We loved the location! About an hour from the airport, the area was residential "low key" and very private. Close by were food trucks, an adequate grocery store and a few restaurants. The Polynesian Cultural Center, where we attended a Luau and a show, and more populated surfing beaches were a few miles in either direction.
The grounds of Malekahana were amazing w/large front and back yards that were beautifully maintained. The beach was steps away. You could walk for miles and the water was calm enough for swimming (lots of garbage washes up along the shore though). The home and cottage were clean and in relatively good condition for a beach house. Rooms were very spacious and beds were comfortable. There were plenty of towels as well as two washer and dryers. We had a few maintenance, electrical/gas issues in the cottage but friendly Management Staff were very willing to amend the issues. The views from the main house Master bedroom and the Cottage were spectacular, although plan to rise early due to the light coming thru the wall of windows! Lots of roosters, chickens, cats, geckos and even a mongoose grace the property but that added to the unique Hawaiian atmosphere for us. I would recommend this property and the staff of Hawaiian Beach Homes were great to work with!
